What do content opportunities answer for you?
They answer the question every content plan starts with. What should we write or fix next? Most teams have more ideas than time. Content opportunities rank the options using your own data, so you can start where the evidence is strongest.
The data comes from three places. Search Console shows clicks and impressions. Rank tracking shows where you sit in Google. The AI answers you track show where the engines cite others instead of you.
What kinds of opportunity are found?
Seven types are found, covering classic search and AI answers. The table sets them out.
| Opportunity | What it finds |
|---|---|
| Page two pushes | Keywords sitting on page two of Google |
| Low click-through pages | Pages that are seen often but rarely clicked |
| Pages losing clicks | Pages with fewer clicks in the last 28 days than the 28 before |
| AI answer gaps | Questions where AI engines cite others and not you |
| AI Overview gaps | Keywords where an AI Overview cites others and not you |
| Keyword cannibalisation | More than one of your pages competing for the same search |
| Local pack gaps | Searches with a local pack where you do not appear |
The AI gaps are where this differs from a normal SEO tool. They come from AI citation tracking and Google AI Overview tracking, so you see where the engines looked for a source and found someone else.
How does it work?
It reads your data, finds the opportunities, and gives each one a clear next step.
- Connect your data. Search Console and Google Analytics 4 connect with read-only access and sync daily.
- Track as usual. Rankings, AI Overview checks and AI answers keep running on their schedules.
- Review the list. Opportunities appear with the evidence behind each one.
- Run an AI analysis. For any opportunity, ask for an analysis of what to do.
- Send it to Work. Turn the opportunity into a task with the evidence and links attached.
What does the AI analysis give you?
It gives you a brief a writer can work from. The analysis draws on the AI answers and the top cited pages for that topic. It then suggests the closest existing page to improve, or a new page to create if nothing fits.
Each analysis also includes facts to use, a suggested title and meta description, an outline and the related queries to cover. It is a starting point, not a finished page. Someone who knows the subject should still write or edit it. If you want a full first draft, content drafts can generate one for a Work task.
Why does this matter for AI search?
It matters because AI engines need a good source for each question. If your site has no page that answers it clearly, the engines will cite someone who does. AI answer gaps show exactly where that is happening.
It also saves effort. Improving a page that already ranks on page two is often quicker than writing a new one. The analysis points you to the closest existing page first, so you are not adding pages you don't need.
Which opportunity should you start with?
A good place to start is wherever the evidence and the effort line up best. Page two pushes are often a quick win, because the page already exists and Google already rates it. Pages losing clicks are worth a look early too, since the drop may still be easy to reverse.
AI answer gaps take a bit more thought. It helps to read the answers and the cited pages first. Sometimes the fix is a clearer answer on a page you have. Sometimes it is a new page, and sometimes it is a listing on a site the engines trust. Our guide on FAQ content for AI search covers one common fix.
Keyword cannibalisation is easy to miss. Two of your pages may split the clicks for one search, and neither does as well as one strong page would.
How do you know if a fix worked?
You link the task to the page or prompt in Work. The platform records a baseline, then later measures whether clicks rose, visibility rose or the page got cited. That gives you a clear before and after, rather than a feeling that things improved.
Who uses it?
In-house teams use it to plan the month's content from real data. SEO consultants use it to show clients a ranked list of fixes with evidence. Agencies use it to build a steady pipeline of work for each client. It suits anyone who needs to explain why a page is worth the time.
Where it fits
Content opportunities draw on AI citation tracking, rankings and Search Console. Page optimisation for AI search checks the page once it is written. Content drafts and Work take an opportunity from idea to published page.
