What is sentiment in AI search?

Also known as brand sentiment, AI sentiment, tone

Definition

Sentiment is the tone an AI answer uses when it talks about a brand, whether positive, neutral or negative. It shows how an engine describes you, beyond whether it mentions you at all.

Key points

  • Sentiment is the tone an AI answer uses about a brand.
  • A mention with a warning attached can do more harm than no mention at all.
  • Negative sentiment usually has a source, such as reviews, forums or old news.

What does it mean in practice?

Two AI answers mention the same removals firm. One says it is "well reviewed for careful packing and fair prices". The other says "some customers report delays and extra charges". Both are mentions, but the sentiment is very different, and so is the effect on a buyer.

Sentiment is usually scored per answer, as positive, neutral or negative, or on a scale. It helps to read the actual wording too, since a score can miss the detail of what was said.

An AI answer is often the first thing a buyer hears about you. A mention with a warning attached can do more harm than no mention.

Negative sentiment usually has a source. It may come from reviews, a forum thread, an old news story or a comparison site. Finding that source is the first step to changing it. Better service and steady review replies tend to shift the picture over time.

In Axiom GEO, AI visibility tracking reads sentiment for every answer, and it feeds into the prominence score. Google Business reviews pulls reviews daily and offers AI draft replies.

These terms connect to sentiment.

Common questions

How do AI engines decide how to describe my brand?

They draw on what they find or learned about you, such as reviews, forum threads, news, directories and your own site. If most sources praise one thing, the answer tends to repeat it. If a complaint appears often, it may show up too, even if it is old.

How can I improve how AI describes my business?

Find the sources behind the tone first. Then work on the causes, such as better service, steady replies to reviews and correcting wrong or old information. Clear pages that explain what you do well give engines positive material to use. Change tends to be gradual.
