What is an llms.txt file?
It is a plain text file in Markdown at the root of a website. It gives AI tools a short summary of the site and a list of the pages most worth reading. It was proposed in 2024 at llmstxt.org and is not an agreed web standard.
Will llms.txt help my site appear in ChatGPT or Google AI answers?
There is no evidence yet that it does. Google says llms.txt is not needed for Search and will not help or hurt rankings, and no major AI search engine has said it uses the file to choose sources. It is cheap to add and does no harm, so treat it as a small extra.
Is this llms.txt generator free?
Yes. It needs no account and has no limit beyond a fair use cap of 10 runs a minute. Axiom GEO customers can also build one inside the app from the pages already crawled for their workspace, and it uses no credits.
Where do I put the file once I have it?
Upload it to the top level of your website so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. Save it as plain text, not as a web page. On WordPress you can upload it by FTP or your host's file manager, or use a plugin that serves the file.
Why are some pages listed without a description?
Those pages have no meta description, so the tool lists them with their heading only. It does not make descriptions up. Adding a clear meta description to each key page helps here and in search results too.
How often should I update it?
Build it again when you add, remove or rename key pages, such as a new service or location. For most sites that means every few months.
