Key points

  • Positions are checked daily to position 50 for every keyword you track.
  • Any UK location can be targeted, down to town level, on desktop or mobile.
  • You can filter by SERP features, including AI Overviews, local packs and featured snippets.
  • A campaign can be duplicated to another location in a few clicks.
  • Rankings sit in the same login as AI visibility, so you see both sides of search together.

What does rank tracking answer?

It answers the classic search question. Where does my site show in Google for the words my buyers type, and is that getting better or worse? Most marketing teams still need that answer, even with AI search growing.

We built it into the same login as AI visibility on purpose. Google results still shape many AI answers, and a drop in one often shows up in the other. Seeing both side by side saves time and a second tool.

How does it work?

Setting up a campaign takes a few minutes.

  1. Add your keywords. Enter the terms you want to track for this campaign.
  2. Choose the location. Pick any UK location, from the whole country down to a single town.
  3. Choose the device. Set the campaign to desktop or mobile.
  4. Let it run. Positions are checked every day, down to position 50 for each keyword.
  5. Copy to other places. Duplicate the campaign to another location when you want to compare towns or branches.

What do you see?

You see each keyword with its current position and how it has moved. A chart groups your keywords by position bucket, so you can see at a glance how many sit in the top three, on page one, on page two and further back. That view is often more useful than a single average position, which can hide a lot.

You can also filter by the SERP features that appear for each keyword. The table shows the three main ones and what each tells you.

SERP featureWhat it isWhat the filter helps you see
AI OverviewGoogle's AI summary at the top of some resultsWhich keywords now have an AI answer above the links
Local packThe map and three local listingsWhere local results compete with your organic position
Featured snippetA quoted answer box from one pageWhich keywords have a snippet you could win or have lost

The glossary has more on the featured snippet and the map pack if you want the detail.

Why track rankings when AI search is growing?

Because the two are linked. Google AI Overviews draw on Google's own results, and many AI engines search the web before they answer. A page that ranks well has a better chance of being read, though ranking alone does not mean it will be cited.

There is also a practical reason. When clicks fall but positions hold steady, the cause is often a new feature above you, such as an AI Overview. The SERP feature filter makes that visible. Our Google AI Overviews tracking then shows whether you are cited in that overview and which sources are.

If you are weighing up how much effort to put into classic SEO, our guide on GEO vs SEO sets out what changes and what stays the same.

How exact is a daily position?

It is a true reading for that keyword, location and device on that day. It is not what every searcher sees. People get slightly different results based on where they are, their device and their past searches.

That is why the location setting matters so much. A position checked for the whole of the UK can be quite different from the one a buyer sees in their own town. For local work, it helps to track the towns you serve rather than one national figure. The trend over weeks usually tells you more than any single day.

What does rank data feed into?

Rankings feed several of the content opportunities the platform finds. Keywords sitting on page two become page two pushes. Two pages ranking for the same term show up as keyword cannibalisation. Keywords with a local pack you are missing from show up as local pack gaps. Keywords with an AI Overview that cites others show up as AI Overview gaps.

Each of those can be sent to Work as a task, so the ranking data leads to a job someone does.

How much does it cost?

A daily rank check costs 2 credits per keyword, and 1 credit is 1p. Tracking 100 keywords every day uses 200 credits a day, around 6,000 in a 30-day month. Every credit spent is logged. The pricing page shows how many credits each plan includes.

Who uses it?

Local service firms use town-level tracking to see how they rank in each area they cover. Multi-location brands duplicate a campaign for each branch. Agencies run rank tracking for clients who still want the classic report, alongside the newer AI visibility numbers. The multi-location brands page covers that setup.

Where it fits

Rank tracking is the classic search view. AI visibility tracking shows how AI engines answer the same kind of questions. Local AI visibility runs your prompts by country or region. Content opportunities turns ranking gaps into work.

Frequently asked questions

How much does rank tracking cost?

A daily rank check costs 2 credits per keyword, and 1 credit is 1p. So 100 keywords checked every day use 200 credits a day, or about 6,000 credits in a 30-day month. Credits come with every plan and every credit spent is logged, so you can see exactly where they went.

Can I track rankings in a specific town?

Yes. You can set any UK location down to town level for a campaign. That matters for local businesses, because results in one town can look very different from the next. You can also duplicate a campaign to another location, so a firm with several branches can track each one.

Does it track mobile and desktop separately?

Yes. Each campaign can be set to desktop or mobile. If both matter to you, it helps to run one of each, since the layout of results and the features shown can differ between the two.

Which SERP features can I filter by?

You can filter by AI Overview, local pack and featured snippet. That lets you see which of your keywords trigger each feature. A drop in clicks with a steady position often means a feature appeared above you, and the filter helps spot that.

Are GEO tools just rebranded rank trackers?

Some are close to it. In Axiom GEO, rank tracking is one part of the platform, not the core. The core is reading real answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude for the questions buyers ask. Rankings sit alongside because Google results still feed many AI answers.

Does it show whether I am cited in AI Overviews?

Yes, through Google AI Overview tracking for your keywords. It shows whether an overview appears, whether you are cited, which sources are cited and what changed. An AI Overview check costs 12 credits. The AI Overviews feature page covers it in more detail.
