Why does AI search for franchises need a per-location view?
Because the answer changes by place. Ask ChatGPT for the best oil change in Columbus and you get one list. Ask the same about Cincinnati and you get another. A franchise can lead in Dallas and barely appear in Houston, while head office only sees a national average.
Location is built into the engines. OpenAI says ChatGPT search may use an approximate location from your IP address to give local results. Google has merged AI Overviews and AI Mode into one Search experience, and those answers change by location too.
So a brand's standing in AI search is really a set of local standings. It helps to track it that way, market by market.
What goes wrong across a franchise system?
Small errors, multiplied by every location. Take a made-up home services franchise with 15 territories across Texas and Oklahoma. An engine names a unit that closed last year, gives old hours for another and says a third offers a service it never did.
Promotions cause trouble too. A national spring offer ends in May, but an AI answer is still quoting it in July. Each error can send a buyer to the wrong place or put them off.
How does the locations list catch closed and unknown locations?
You keep a list of your locations in answer accuracy, each with start and end dates. A setting says whether the list is complete. If it is, any location an engine names that is not on the list gets flagged. If it is not, only details that can be proven wrong are flagged.
Offers work the same way, with start and end dates. So an expired promotion in an AI answer shows up as an issue, along with where it came from.
Where do AI engines find location details?
From location pages and listings, in roughly equal measure. Yext studied 6.8 million AI citations from ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. First-party websites made up 44% and listings 42%. Gemini favored websites, while OpenAI leaned on listings.
That means every location needs both. Each one needs a clear page on your own site and accurate listings on Google Business Profile, Yelp, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect. Reviews matter per location too. BrightLocal found 74% of US consumers focus on reviews from the last three months.
What do you get from Axiom GEO?
A view of every market, and the tools to fix what is wrong at each location.
- Markets. Local AI visibility runs the same prompts per region, such as a state or a metro area, and splits share of voice by geography.
- Reviews for every location. Google Business Profile reviews finds every location, pulls reviews daily and reports by source and location.
- Listings. Local citations tracks each location's listings and whether each is live, claimed, pending or not claimed.
- Location accuracy. Answer accuracy checks AI answers against your locations and offers lists.
- Location pages. Page analysis scores each page on structured data, headings, meta, content and freshness, with a fix list.
- Markup. The schema generator builds LocalBusiness JSON-LD with the address and rating from each profile.
Reviews are pulled from Google Business Profile only. Yelp and other review sites show up through citation tracking when the engines cite them.
How do franchisors and franchisees share the work?
A franchise system usually sits in one workspace, run by the franchisor's marketing team or its agency. Head office owns the prompt set, the fact sheet and the locations list, so the facts stay the same everywhere.
Franchisees tend to own the local parts, such as replying to reviews and keeping their own listings current. Monthly reports split by location give them and regional managers a clear list of what to fix.
What does a typical month look like?
A multi-location team might work through a cycle like this.
- Compare markets. Look at share of voice by region and spot the ones that lag.
- Check location accuracy. Review flagged locations, hours, services and offers, and trace each to its source.
- Review the reviews. Look at new reviews by location and reply where needed.
- Tidy the listings. Claim and correct listings for any location that opened, moved or closed.
- Fix location pages. Send weak pages and market gaps to Work as tasks.
- Report by location. Share the monthly report with head office, franchisees and regional managers.
Which plan fits a franchise brand?
Plans count clients, and a client is usually one brand with its own workspace. What grows with each market is credit use, since each prompt runs on each engine in every market. Plans are billed in pounds sterling (GBP).
| Plan | Price per month (GBP) | Credits | What it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Professional | £799 | 50,000 | One brand in a few markets, with four engines and answer accuracy |
| Premium | £1,499 | 120,000 | More markets, plus QA Finder and content rewrites |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Groups running many brands |
A Perplexity query costs 20 credits and a ChatGPT query 40, so it is easy to work out what a prompt set across your markets will use. The US pricing page shows an approximate dollar figure.
