The Axiom GEO AI Overviews tracker checks live Google results for your keywords. Google AI Mode is covered through the Search Console Generative AI features report, which you upload so daily impressions build up over time.

What does the AI Overviews tracker tell you?

It tells you which of your keywords now show a Google AI Overview, and whether your site is one of the sources. It also shows which other sites Google picked and what changed since the last check.

The term AI Overview tracking refers to checking your keywords for a Google AI Overview and recording whether your site is cited.

An AI Overview sits above the normal results for many US searches. A page can rank well and still be left out of it. So it helps to track the overview as its own thing, next to your position.

How big are AI Overviews and AI Mode in the US?

Large, going by Google's own figures. On May 20, 2025, Google said AI Mode was rolling out to everyone in the US. In the same post it said AI Overviews drove over 10% more use of Google in the US and India, for the types of queries that show them.

In its Q2 2026 earnings message, Alphabet said AI Mode had passed 1 billion monthly active users since expanding globally. It also said AI Overviews and AI Mode have been merged into one Search experience. Google says it sends billions of clicks to websites every week through AI features in Search.

Does an AI Overview cut your clicks?

Often it does, though the effect varies by keyword. Pew Research Center found Google users clicked a traditional result in 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, against 15% when none did. Ahrefs studied 300,000 keywords using December 2025 data. When an AI Overview appeared, the position one result got about 58% fewer clicks.

Being cited changes the picture. Seer Interactive tracked 3,119 search terms across 42 organizations. Organic CTR on queries with an AI Overview fell 61%. Brands cited in the overview earned 35% higher organic CTR and 91% higher paid CTR than brands not cited. That is why the tracker records citations as well as presence.

How does the AI Overviews tracker work?

It reads live Google results for the keywords you choose and records what it finds.

  1. Choose your keywords. Add the searches that matter to your business, such as "how much does a new AC unit cost" or "do I need a lawyer after a car accident".
  2. Set the location. Google results change by place, so you can set a location for each market you serve.
  3. Run the checks. Each check reads the live results and looks for an AI Overview.
  4. Record the detail. For each keyword it records whether an overview showed, whether you were cited and which sources were cited.
  5. Compare with last time. Changes are picked out, so you can see when an overview appears, disappears or swaps its sources.

Each AI Overview check costs 12 credits, and every credit spent is logged. A credit is worth 1p, so a check costs 12p, billed in pounds sterling.

How does Google AI Mode tracking work?

AI Mode is covered through Search Console, because Google's API does not expose AI Mode data. Search Console has a Generative AI features report. You upload it to Axiom GEO, and each upload adds daily impressions to the history.

Over time that builds a record you can chart and compare. It is less direct than the AI Overview checks, and we would rather say so plainly. For more on how AI Mode works, see our guide to Google AI Mode.

What do you see on screen?

You see a list of keywords with a clear marker for each one that shows an overview. Next to it are your citation status and the cited sources.

CheckWhat it shows
Overview presentWhether Google showed an AI Overview for the keyword
You are citedWhether one of your pages is among the sources
Cited sourcesWhich sites and pages Google used
What changedNew or lost overviews, and new or lost sources
AI Mode impressionsDaily impressions from your Search Console uploads

In rank tracking you can filter keywords by SERP features, including AI Overview. That lets you pick out every keyword with an overview and see your position for each one.

Where does Gemini fit?

Gemini is Google's own assistant, and Alphabet says the Gemini app has 950 million monthly active users. Axiom GEO now asks Gemini with Google Search switched on, so its answers name the pages it used. That gives you a second Google view next to the overviews.

Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude all sit in the AI visibility tracking tool. If an overview or an answer gets a detail wrong, AI answer accuracy checks it against your approved facts.

Who uses it?

SEO teams use it to explain changes in clicks that rankings alone can't explain. Local businesses, such as a Texas HVAC company, set a location for each area they serve. Agencies use it to show clients which keywords now carry an overview and where the client is cited.

Axiom GEO is run from the UK and works for US brands and agencies, and the US hub has more. Plans are billed in pounds sterling from £500 a month, and the pricing page shows an approximate US dollar figure.

Where it fits

Rank tracking gives daily Google positions for the same keywords. AI citation tracking shows the sources across every engine. Content opportunities turn overview gaps into pages to write or improve. Our guide on how to appear in Google AI Overviews is a good place to start.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI Overviews tracker?

An AI Overviews tracker checks Google results for your keywords and records when an AI Overview appears and which sites it cites. Axiom GEO also records what changed between checks. That shows you which keywords now carry an overview and whether your pages are among the sources Google uses.

Can you track Google AI Mode?

Partly, and we are open about how. Google's API does not expose AI Mode data. Axiom GEO covers it through the Search Console Generative AI features report, which you upload. Each upload adds daily impressions, so the history builds up over time inside the platform.

What triggers a Google AI Overview?

Google decides when to show an AI Overview, and it does not publish a full list of triggers. In practice they tend to show for questions and for searches where a short summary helps. Tracking your own keywords is the most reliable way to see which of them carry an overview today.

Is Google AI Overview affecting my organic traffic?

It may be, and your own data is the best place to look. Axiom GEO shows which keywords carry an overview, with your rankings and Search Console clicks in the same login. If clicks fall while rankings hold and an overview appears, that is a sign worth looking into.

How do I get cited in Google AI Overviews?

There is no switch for it, but some things help. Pages that answer the question clearly, rank well for it and are easy for Google to read are more likely to be used. Content opportunities flag keywords where an overview cites others and not you, with the closest page to improve.

Why is Google AI Overview wrong sometimes?

AI Overviews are written from pages Google finds, and some of those pages are out of date or simply wrong. The overview can also mix details from more than one source. Checking which sources are cited helps you find where a wrong detail came from.
